Content strategy, business storytelling and communications leadership for
six FORTUNE 500 companies
There’s nothing better than having a job that allows you to tell stories that make a difference. As an editor, writer, content strategist and digital marketing expert who got my start as a national journalist, I am privileged to have done this at several FORTUNE 500 companies.
Like telling stories as editor of the Visa Blog about Black-owned businesses that build wealth for underserved groups. Or helping Walmart associates in 5,000 stores take advantage of continuing education programs and development opportunities. Or leading a content design team at Intuit that helped millions of QuickBooks customers close their books on the tax year. Or promoting new services on the Nokia Conversations Blog that could help up-level the quality of life for millions.
As an experienced communications and marketing leader and change agent, I have built internal communications functions from scratch, launched new digital platforms for companies, hosted webcasts attended by thousands, scripted speeches for C-suite executives and executed multi-channel social strategies that generated results for audiences. Like enticing hundreds of startups to sign up for shark-tank-style competitions, publishing original company research helping governments leverage digital payments for their citizens or explaining the mission and purpose of the world’s largest payments company in a simple “person-in-the-street” video.
Along the way I’ve played music. At Sprint, Nokia and Walmart I started in-house bands to bring folks together in the spirit of fun and creativity. Our Sprint band (the “Direct Connectors”) gained honors at a Fortune-sponsored competition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Walmart’s “Rolling Sparks” played in front of 5,000 associates to kick off the Technology group’s Year Beginning Meeting.
In addition to creating content, I enjoy presenting on the topic and learning from other storytellers. I have been a featured speaker at the Social Tools Summit, on the Business of Story podcast and several events hosted by the Innovation Enterprise speaker series.
I got my start as a reporter for Inc. Magazine. I am a proud alumnus of Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. (B.A. in English.) I am even prouder of my lovely wife and two kids who live with me in Redwood City, California.
